At it's heart sustainable living is about creating a life based on caring - caring about how much you need, about where you source your things and about all of the costs associated with their creation such as the human cost, the cost to the planet, the cost to animals and the cost to fairness, equitability and economic parity.
We are often blinded only by the financial cost, thinking we can only afford so much when the reality is, much of what we buy is wasted, not needed, too poor quality to last and often not even really wanted.
We do not need to keep up with the 'Joneses', we do not need to succumb to seasonal fads, we do not need to follow the crowd and we do not need to have everything right here, right now.
Sustainable living is about opening our eyes to our impact on the world - being brave enough to step outside of the norm, having faith in yourself and allowing your own creativity to shine and embracing being different by showing others that there is another way to live which is much kinder to our planet and to our fellow human beings.
I would not be so arrogant as to dictate to anyone how to live, nor am I fool enough to believe that I have all of the answers, but I do try to live a little better, a little kinder and a little more sustainable each and everyday.
I believe small changes are infinitely better than no change and over the years I have slowly but surely tried to adopt a more sustainable and peaceful way of life.
